City of Fort Collins Recycling and Waste Stream Diversion Projects

Public Open House

Thursday, March 22

5 – 7 pm

215 Mason Street Community Room

The City of Fort Collins has received working drafts for two consulting reports to help shape the future of recycling and alternative waste management in Fort Collins. Next week, we will share information about projects at a public Open House and we are requesting your input.

Project #1: Waste Stream Study

This project analyzes the type and qty of materials still going to the landfill from Ft. Collins

Project #2: Integrated Recycling Facility (IRF) Feasibility Analysis and Staff Report

The consultants created rough sketches of a facility that would accept the most common recyclable materials still being landfilled. Targeted at the self-haul customer of landfills, this facility would accept materials at one drop-off location, then taken to recycling plants and processors to be marketed.

We know that you and your household and / or business are integral parts of our community’s waste and recycling system. Please join us at the Open House to share your thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

Call for Entries

Applications are now being accepted for a first-ever, highly visible competition and community based exhibition in Boulder, Colorado featuring works of art created with or on reclaimed doors…any kind of door made of any kind of material. The works of art may still function as doors or may be transformed into another functional or visual art object. A $20 gift certificate to the ReSource Yard, a source for reclaimed doors and other building materials in Boulder County, is provided with completed applications (register early to take advantage of this opportunity).

Cash and other prizes will be awarded and works may be sold via silent auction throughout the 2+ months’ long exhibition, culminating with the final auction at the “Door Jam” event celebrating the end of the competition. Jurors will include executive directors of arts organizations/galleries, prominent local artists and art buyers. Accepted works will be displayed at multiple venues in the Boulder area, with an exhibition guide published on-line and in selected high traffic locations. Early entries are invited for spring displays promoting the competition.

SMART (Sustainable Materials + Art) is an initiative started by the Center for ReSource Conservation to celebrate and promote re-use of hard-to-recycle objects, expand market opportunities for artists working with reclaimed materials, and reflect the value that Boulder places on sustainability in public and private works of art.

Welcome to Spring at ReSource

As March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb, we are seeing signs of spring amongst the storms providing much needed moisture. The ground is warming and getting ready for new life. Calves are jumping and kicking on open space around Boulder and we are all beginning to plan our gardens.

ReSource is an invaluable place to obtain farm and garden materials. From raised beds to cold frames to pots and trellises, ReSource is an excellent source of affordable and recylced materials. Our Tool School is offering classes in cold frame construction and offers garden tools for all types, sharpened and ready to go. From shredders to wheelbarrows to shovels, picks, sprinkers, you can rent it by the day or by the week. We have landscape materials to build the beds and rock and brick to line them. We have stakes and fencing and landscape fabric and screens etc… for a variety of farm and garden needs. Our clients are finding valuable products for baby chicks, goats, and various animal production operations and we are welcoming clients from all over the front range of Colorado and into New Mexico and Wyoming.
